Pick of the week: Prime Suspect 7: Final Act
Dog of the week: Two and a Half Men
The whip-smart return of "The Graduate" heads this week's crop of DVDs. The Mike Nichols classic has suffered through the DVD era so far, represented by a series of indifferent double-dips that kept cribbing from the same raggedy source materials.
Now we have MGM's "The Graduate: 40th Anniversary Collector's Edition." The film is in 2.35:1 widescreen with DTS and Dolby Surround tracks. Extras include one commentary by Dustin Hoffman and Katherine Ross, and another from director Nichols and (new DVD go-to-guy) Steven Soderbergh.
No doubt the current crop of college men will head straight for the featurette "Would You Like Me to Seduce You: The Seduction Scene Revisited." (Who knew silly old Mel Brooks had it so good?)
This year's apocalyptic flood of Halloween titles brings a first wave of horror from Fox/MGM. This week's highlights include "The Fly Collection," "Vincent Price: MGM Scream Legends Collection
" and the long-awaited return of the Midnite Movie two-fers.
For upcoming gore in stores, check out your DVD blog's shocking series "Halloween 1" and "Halloween 2."
