Here's a fun and vaguely useful Web tool. You rate a screenful of movies from 1 star to 4. The software then tells you which major critics you're most in tune with. Simple as that.
Here's how your DVD blogger fared:
1. Rotten Tomatoes: 84% (Means I tend to flow with the critical consensus. I'm one of the reviewers on RT.)
2. Peter Travers: 80% (Rolling Stone critic. Most-blurbed reviewer because he sees everything first.)
3. James Bernadelli: 79% (From a site called ReelViews. I'm underwhelmed.)
4. Roger Ebert: 77% (Roger's great but I usually sided with Siskel.)
I never read reviews of movies I plan to see. If I'm on the bubble, just the first and last paragraph or so. When I do read film reviews, usually they're from the excellent New York Times critics.
