"The Departed" has sold more than 100,000 units in high-definition, a first for the two dueling formats. The studio says the success is due to its aggressive release of the title in both high-def formats, Home Media magazine reports in its latest issue.
"It's no accident," says Ron Sanders, president of Warner home vid. "We owe this success to a combination of great product and our descision to support both formats."
Serious money to be made in Blu-ray and HD DVD
. A no-brainer, right? But of the major studios, only Warner and Paramount put their big titles out in both formats. Sony, of course, has its huge investment in Blu-ray, but sources close to a week-old copy of The Wall Street Journal told this DVD blog that the Japanese giant could really use the bucks.
Even the VHS-Beta combatants knew better than this. And the real losers, of course, are the early adopters who spread the gospel of this exciting new home theater technology. They deserve better.
